CBD for anxiety

Fear and anxiety are adaptive responses that are essential to coping with threats to survival. Yet excessive or persistent fear may be maladaptive, leading to disability. Anxiety is the most common of all mental disorders, with 1 in 13 suffering from anxiety globally (source), 7.3% of all planet. As world is faster and more connected than ever it comes with it’s downside for people’s mental health. As anxiety and depression are found in every society in the world and in growing numbers, it is clear that it is a problem to be dealt with.

In one study, participants took CBD for anxiety and sleep disorders and the results were astonishing – with 79.2% of participants having decreased anxiety:

” The final sample consisted of 72 adults presenting with primary concerns of anxiety (n = 47) or poor sleep (n = 25). Anxiety scores decreased within the first month in 57 patients (79.2%) and remained decreased during the study duration. Sleep scores improved within the first month in 48 patients (66.7%) ” (source)

Another study looked at CBD in a whole arrange of mental disorders, that are related to anxiety, such as PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), GAD (generalized anxiety disorder), PD (panic disorder), SAD (social anxiety disorder) and OCD (obsesive compulsive disorder) and found out that CBD has anxiolytic effects on these disorders:

” Preclinical evidence conclusively demonstrates CBD’s efficacy in reducing anxiety behaviors relevant to multiple disorders, including PTSD, GAD, PD, OCD, and SAD, with a notable lack of anxiogenic effects. ” (source)

Also this study says that CBD has a “excellent safety profile”:

” Human experimental findings support preclinical findings, and also suggest a lack of anxiogenic effects, minimal sedative effects, and an excellent safety profile.” (source)

To sum up, CBD and hemp extracts has a huge potential in treating anxiety disorder and related ailments, but we are yet to understand more how exactly it works as more research is needed.
